The Camargue and the Alpilles, in the Mediterranean region of southern France, are famous for their culture and biodiversity.
The Camargue is the largest wetland in France, and the Alpilles are limestone hiles covered by shrub-lands called "garrigue", which are, with olive trees, typical of Provence.
Together with the nearby Crau, a steppic plain, these three areas form what is known as “The golden triangle of biodiversity”.
